Teen Tour

Adventure 2009!!

 

When: August 17 to August 20; 4 days/3 nights

Traveling by Club vans with 4 Chaperones.

Where: New Hampshire and Vermont; paintball, rock climbing, white water rafting, water parks, kayaking, zip lining and much more!!

Cost: $300.00 includes lodging, daily activities, breakfast and dinner. Doesn't include lunch, snacks or souvenirs.

Payment plans are available.

Teen Leaders Program:
Cultivating Tomorrow’s Club Professionals Today
Junior Staff Career Development is a comprehensive small-group program designed to guide youth toward careers in youth development or human services by nurturing their leadership skills and providing guided, practical experiences. Teen Leaders will work up to 10 hours during the week and will receive a stipend at the end of 20 hours worked. Interested candidates must have a strong will to learn and commit up to 10 hours to train and work at the Club for 12 weeks and go through an interview process.

Grades: 9-12
Four Teen Leaders at a time will select three separate trainings from:
Starts: September 24 Ends: December 14 Monday: 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Starts: January 7 Ends: March 31 Monday: 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Starts: April 7 Ends: June 13 Monday: 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

SAT/PSAT
Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club is committed to our youth success after high school. We have hired professional PSAT and SAT teachers to educated and give our youth the skills needed to grade high on their SAT. We will be dividing the juniors and senior into separate programs to effectively prepare for the PSAT on October 18 and SAT on December 6.

College Prep
College Prep I is a career exploration, educational and mentoring program for teens ages 13-18. Teens will learn the in’s an out’s of College. Session Topics: College Admission Process, Financial Aid, How to Obtain Scholarships, Prepare Resume, Learn about Different Majors, Mock Interviews, Transferring Credits, College Dorm Life and much more.

Field Trips: Including visits to various
Colleges and Universities starting March through May.

Starts: October 3 Ends: December 13 Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Starts: January 3 Ends: March 13 Thursdays, 5:00- 6:00 p.m.

Diverse Unity Keystone Club
A leadership development and community service program for teens ages 14-18. It provides a unique opportunity for teens to serve as leaders, elect officers within the Club, choose their own activities and plan and implement community service and Club projects. Keystoners also get a chance to travel to conferences and meet other Keystone members from all over the world.

Grades: 9-12
Year-round, starting September 11, Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

CLUBService
This program, the result of a partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Corporation for National Service (AmeriCorps), provides education awards to Club members grades 11 and 12 and Club alumnae ages 19-24 who serve their Clubs and communities. CLUBService recognizes young people’s service, helps them access higher education and encourages them to pursue future careers as Club professionals.

Grades: 11-12, and alumni ages 19-24 who are interested in volunteering 10-20 hours a week at the Club in return for an educational stipend.
Year-round, starting September 25

We’ll meet Wednesdays from 4:00- 4:30 p.m., in addition to the work schedule you

SMART Girls
A Club just for Girls! The program focuses on issues specific to female Club members and is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable those members to develop to their full potential. From interactive role playing to more tailored mentoring, girls are given the opportunity to explore personal and societal values as they build skills for eating right, staying fit, learning proper health care and developing positive relationships. The girls will also be planning the 2008 Fashion Show.

Grades: 9-12
Starts: September 27 Ends: March 28

Friday Triple Play Challenges
The goal of the Triple Play program is to improve Club members’ knowledge of healthy habits; increase the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities; and strengthen their ability to interact positively with others and engage in positive relationships. Components include: Daily Pool, Table Tennis, Strengthening, Board Games, Video Games, Sports, Thinking, Writing, Cartoon making challenges and more!

Grades: 9-12
Year-round, begins September 20, Fridays, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Youth for Unity
Youth for Unity, a diversity education program designed to combat prejudice, bigotry and discrimination. Youth for Unity is the umbrella title for a comprehensive set of programmatic interventions that will allow Clubs to help members appreciate and understand our society’s diversity, recognize unfairness and take personal leadership in confronting bias.

Grades: 9-12
Starts: January 8 Ends: March 27 Mondays, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Youth of the Year
The National Youth of the Year Program is designed to promote and recognize service to Club and community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life. Competition begins by a teen being selected as the youth of the month and then being nominated as a Youth of The Year Nominee. GBBGC Youth of the Year will receive a certificate and medallion then enter the state competition. State winners receive a plaque and $1,000 scholarship then enter the regional competition. Each of the five regional winners receives a $10,000 scholarship and enters the national competition held in Washington, DC. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $15,000 scholarship, totaling $26,000 in scholarships, and is installed by the President of the United States.

Grades: 9-12
Year-round, starts January 8 Tuesdays, 4:00- 5:00 p.m.
Club competition will take place in the month of March.
NE Regional competition will take place in the month of April.

Job Ready
Job Ready is a career exploration and mentoring program for teens ages 14 to 18. This program includes the CareerLaunch Web site that allows teens to take an interest survey, explore careers, identify training or college requirements, seek out financial aid and play skills-building games. Session Topics: Making Career Decisions, Using Labor Market Information, Preparing Resumes, Filling out Job Applications, Interviewing, Completing Tasks Effectively and much more. Field Trips: Career Fair, Local Small Business, Local Corporate Business, Non-Profit organization, Large Firm in NYC. Special Project: Organize a small career fair at GBBGC.

Grades: 10-12
Starts: April 7 Ends: March 17 Mondays, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Fridays Teen FUN until 11:00 p.m.
Watch new release movies on our huge new big-screen TV with surround sound, while having hot popcorn every Friday stating at 8:00 p.m. Or just chill with your friends; listen to your favorite music and karaoke. Open board game area and gym time after 8 p.m.

Food ordered must be paid for by 7 p.m.
